Halloween Spirit

Happy Halloween, everyone!!!

Who else is as excited as I am? I love this festival. Even though not that many people celebrate it here in the Czech Republic. Czech people are not really fond of this celebration. And if someone does at least tolerate it they definitely don’t go ‘trick or treating’ or anything like that. Ever. You may find one or two (if you’re lucky) jack-o-lanterns in front of their houses or on the balconies. And that is it.

None of my family members celebrate Halloween. I dare to say they would not even be aware of the fact it exists if it wasn’t for me, hahha. But I see why the resentment from the point of view of a Czech person. I get it. We are very patriotic when it comes to our national festivals. And Halloween is certainly not Czech.

Me and my friends, we celebrated it as far as I remember. When we were 12 or 13 years old we would create our own decorations and decorate our rooms, throwing our own little personal Halloween parties, carving the pumpkins, and then looking at each other’s balconies how bright it shines. I even keep a tradition with one of those girls on Halloween evening/night. We try to do it together every year. As we got older it’s obviously harder to maintain. Still even this year we managed, a week earlier, hahah, and not on the specific day but it counts.

Poeple here don’t get it. Why. Why do you celebrate Halloween, Kristýna?

It’s because of the atmosphere. I love the vibe. I love the feeling I get when it’s Halloween. As a Czech girl I celebrate it to have fun. I feel like most people, even Americans, do that nowadays for the same reason. But I’m aware of the history as well. In Czech Republic we celebrate a very important day right after. In a similar vibe let’s say. In order to commemorate the ones we lost. That is a very important day for me as well, don’t get me wrong. But yes, I am Czech and I do love and celebrate Halloween. For various reasons. Don’t judge.

This year Halloween happens to be on Wednesday. Which means #SMWednesday. I wanted to create something new, really cool and different, related to the Halloween vibe. Well, I don’t see blood or ripped clothes in these pictures, you may be thinking, so what the hell are you talking about. Let me explain..

It is about the emotion. Of course I could have written a DIY post on ‘how to make the easiest Halloween costumes!’. But this time it is not about that. It is not about the clothes. It is not about what I’m wearing. The shoes, shirt… None of that.

As you might have noticed I wear a very simple outfit this time. Something that doesn’t draw much attention to itself. It is about the expression. About the surroundings. It is about the encounter of the human being with the wilderness. The rocks, the woods, the wind, the top of the world.

I leave you here with the interpretation. Whatever emotion you may sense in the photos. It’s up to you. And do I know what it is for real? ‘No’ is my very honest answer. It’s all in one. And nothing at the same time. It’s a mixture. But it is 100% real. And scary to certain extend.

Happy Halloween, my dear friends.

Enjoy the spooky time.

See you next time!

x Kristýna
